Everybody should join us May 12th from 10am-5pm and 13th noon to 4pm for our annual swap meet.  Sellers- have a boat or gear in good shape that you would love to get rid of, but don’t want the hassle of doing it yourself?  Bring it in to us anytime from now till Friday, May 11 cleaned up and ready to sell and we’ll sell it for you!  You’ll receive 100% store credit when we sell it, or if you prefer we will give you 90% of the sale price back in cash.  Contact us to arrange for the drop off of your boat or gear as soon as possible for best advertising of its sale.  If it doesn’t sell the day of the sale, we may be able to keep it and sell it for you under our normal consignment program.

So you might be wondering what is the right paddle for me?  Well there are a lot of different theories out there, but our partner Werner Paddles seem to have the best grip -(get it, grip) on the subject.  Here is a great little video put together to explain the two major paddling styles and what to look for in a paddle that fits your natural style.  Be sure to check out all their videos here.

Youth Programs at the Kayak Shack offer children the opportunity to learn to paddle in a safe and enjoyable enviroment.  We offer programs ranging from afterschool and weekend sessions to full day and our 5 day summer courses.  All of our classes differ slightly in their curriculum, but they all have the same goal.  To have as much fun and enjoyment in a canoe, kayak, or on a paddleboard as we can while learning the skills that lay the foundation for becoming a proficient and self supporting paddler.

The students learn things such as boat control, wet exits, self recovery, and safety issues, as well as a few nature tidbits, and how to read a compass and map.  We support this learning with games and activities that keep our students occupied in the task, while reinforcing the skills they are learning.  Our instructors are certified coaches, and teach the classes with the latest knowledge, and the utmost safety in mind.

Students should plan to get wet during any of our courses, and most courses go off rain or shine.   We supply everything the student needs to paddle (boats, paddles, PFD’s) but see our Things To Bring page for a list of things the students should bring themselves.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.

All of our class schedules and costs are listed here on our calendar of events.  Classes are limited in size to small groups and do tend to fill up quickly so sign up soon!
